PGA Tour professionals receive $60 million in awards during this week
Top PGA Tour Pros Cash In Ahead of FedEx Cup Playoffs
The final weeks of the PGA Tour's regular season have seen some of the sport's biggest names pocketing significant sums, thanks to the Comcast Business Tour Top 10 prize pool and the FedEx Cup payout.
The Comcast Business Tour Top 10, distributed just after the Wyndham Championship, rewards the season's top performers with a total of $40 million. Here's the breakdown:
| Position | Prize Money | |----------|-----------------| | 1st | $8 million | | 2nd | $6 million | | 3rd | $4.8 million | | 4th | $4.4 million | | 5th | $4 million | | 6th | $3.4 million | | 7th | $2.8 million | | 8th | $2.4 million | | 9th | $2.2 million | | 10th | $2 million |
This pool is separate from the $20 million bonus pool distributed to the top 10 at the end of the regular season and also separate from the FedEx Cup's $100 million bonus pool related to the playoffs themselves.
Scottie Scheffler earned a staggering $18 million from the FedEx Cup payout and the Comcast Business Tour Top 10, while Cameron Young secured a check for just under $1.5 million for his win at the Wyndham Championship. Harris English earned $3.45 million, and Justin Thomas received $4.8 million from the Comcast Business Tour Top 10 and FedEx Cup earnings.
Rory McIlroy, who finished 2nd in the Comcast Business Tour Top 10, banked an impressive $10 million, with $4 million from the FedEx Cup payout and an additional $6 million from the Comcast Business Tour Top 10.
Cameron Young's win at the Wyndham Championship also marked a significant milestone, as he became the 1,000th different man to win a PGA Tour event. His victory also propelled him into the top-30 of the season-long standings.
Meanwhile, Maverick McNealy ended the regular season in 11th but will not collect any bonus money until after the BMW Championship. The top 30 players after the BMW Championship qualify for the Tour Championship, and pool distributions occur at various stages.
Everyone inside the top-30 at the conclusion of the BMW Championship will receive between $195,000 and $5 million, depending on their FedEx Cup position. The FedEx St Jude Championship, the BMW Championship, and the Tour Championship make up the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
As the playoffs approach, a group of dominant pros have already cashed in, with Sepp Straka, Russell Henley, Ben Griffin, Tommy Fleetwood, and Keegan Bradley all earning substantial sums. JJ Spaun also joined the ranks, earning $3 million from the Comcast Business Tour Top 10 and FedEx Cup earnings.
The Wyndham Championship had a marginally lighter field compared to other PGA Tour events, but the prize money certainly made up for it. The top 10 PGA Tour pros shared a total of $60 million following the conclusion of the event. As the playoffs begin, the stakes will only get higher.
Golf enthusiasts should keep an eye on Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas, as both have cashed in during the final weeks of the PGA Tour's regular season. Rory McIlroy secured an impressive $10 million from the FedEx Cup payout and the Comcast Business Tour Top 10, while Justin Thomas earned $4.8 million from these sources.
