PGA Tour might see the long-awaited culmination of a controversial record that Tommy Fleetwood has held this weekend.

In the FedEx St. Jude Championship, Tommy Fleetwood is competing, but it's not his week as Cameron Young clinched a maiden PGA Tour win.

Fleetwood had built a three-shot lead at the halfway stage of the tournament, but a familiar pattern emerged. He faltered in the final round, ultimately losing to Young, who played rounds of 63 and 64 at TPC Southwind.

This is not the first time Fleetwood has faced such a setback. He had a similar advantage with one round to play at June's Travelers Championship but finished behind Keegan Bradley. His struggle to win on the PGA Tour, despite multiple runner-up finishes, seems to stem from late-round difficulties and near misses in final rounds.

Fleetwood has played on the PGA Tour for the 162nd time, and his total PGA Tour prize money remains at $31,360,669. He is the only current or former PGA Tour player who has earned more than $30m on the circuit but has yet to claim a win.

Cameron Young, on the other hand, has surpassed $20m in PGA Tour earnings with his win at the Wyndham Championship, a week before the FedEx St. Jude Championship. Young, who had seven runner-up finishes in 93 previous tournaments, finally broke through with his first PGA Tour win.

Fleetwood's record for the most runner-up finishes at PGA Tour events (six) remains unmatched by Young. Despite his consistent high performance without a breakthrough, Fleetwood's inability to close out tournaments under pressure and some unfortunate late-round errors have cost him victories.

Statistically, 2025 was Fleetwood's best season, ranking fourth on total strokes gained and fifth-best player in the world by advanced metrics, demonstrating he plays at a winning level but has not yet converted that into a PGA Tour title.

As the FedEx Cup Playoffs continue, Fleetwood's unwanted record of not winning a PGA Tour event persists. His victory at the FedEx St. Jude Championship could put an end to this record and mark a significant milestone in his career.

Despite Tommy Fleetwood's consistent performance in PGA Tour events, his struggle to convert high finishes into wins, particularly in final rounds, became evident yet again during the FedEx St. Jude Championship. On the other hand, Cameron Young, with his win at the Wyndham Championship, made a successful transition from accumulating runner-up finishes to securing his first PGA Tour victory.
