The General Prosecutor's Office in Munich, after extensive inquiries, slapped charges on climate activist Carla Hinrichs and others from the New Generations group in March. The Munich Regional Court is yet to determine the validity of these charges.
Bavaria's justice system is the only one to have brought charges against activists from the New Generations, accusing them of forming a criminal enterprise.
The New Generations, a rebranded version of the controversial Last Generation, have time and again raised alarms with their protest tactics. These included blockading roads and causing traffic snarl-ups. Their reckless actions sparked numerous complaints and criminal probes. Today, they've switched to less disruptive forms of protest.
In May 2023, the Munich General Prosecutor's Office orchestrated a massive raid against the Last Generation, targeting 15 locations. Allegations regarding the searches and seizures were of no avail.
