Peruvian authorities report that the spouse of a deceased California woman has absconded to Peru.
Sheylla Cabrera, a 33-year-old woman from California, has been missing since August 12. Tragically, her body was discovered by investigators at an undisclosed location in the Angeles National Forest.
Investigators believe foul play may have been involved in her disappearance, and video surveillance has shown Jossimar Cabrera, Sheylla's husband, dragging something in a large piece of material from their shared apartment complex. Jossimar Cabrera, a 36-year-old man, is believed to have fled to Peru, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department.
In a significant development, the Montrose Mountain Search and Rescue Team found an object similar to the material seen being taken away by Jossimar Cabrera in the Angeles National Forest. Investigators are working diligently to obtain necessary documents to secure Jossimar's return.
Meanwhile, the three children of Sheylla and Jossimar Cabrera were found safe and taken into protective custody in Peru on Saturday. The three-year-old sons of the murdered Sheylla were taken in by family members after her death in Peru.
The official cause of Sheylla's death will be determined by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office. The case against Jossimar Cabrera will be referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for criminal charges.
