His alleged route to happiness consists of a straightforward approach. - "Person's Simplified Path to Contentment"

Country crooner Blake Shelton (48) drops some know-how on us about the key to keeping the flame alive with his beloved partner, Gwen Stefani (55), in their nearly decade-long relationship. The duo spilled the beans in a jaw-dropping interview with U.S. magazine "People" where they discussed their new album and daily life together.

This year, they commemorate ten years of pure magic together. "Time may be flying, but who cares?" Shelton quips. "When we reminisce about certain moments, it suddenly hits you, 'Holy cow, that was eight years ago!'" For the heartthrob, their relationship still feels like it's just beginning, marking that mysterious ingredient as the "key to happiness – keeping it as exciting and new as it felt at the start."

Sharing a shared passion undoubtedly assists their enduring love. The pair collaborated on a new duet for Shelton's latest album. Although they cut two tracks, only one made the final cut. "We both couldn't resist both of them, so we saved the other for our next project," he teased. The single "Hangin' On" was "one captivating challenge," but the dynamic duo "loves to step out of our comfort zones as singers."

Living together certainly strengthens their bond. They belt out their duets all over their home, singing them over and over again until perfection sets in. "By the time we get to the recording studio, it's like rehearsing for a concert," he explains.

As for writing lyrics, the twosome couldn't be more different. "Gwen is quite meticulous about her words. I've never given lyric selection much thought. It's all about the melody for me," the 48-year-old jests. "She needs to see herself in the words she sings, unlike me. I've sung about serving hard time in prison, and nobody seems to care!"

Once album work is done, they trade touring for a quiet summer with Gwen and her three sons, Kingston (18), Zuma (16), and Apollo (11), from her previous marriage to Gavin Rossdale (59). "I'm looking forward to sweet freedom from school schedules. Gwen and I have a veritable dream vacation planned," he reveals. "We don't have any grand plans, which is our favorite plan."
