In the heart of Uhingen, Germany, a unique swimming sports centre has emerged. Built by professional swimmer Achim Gall, the centre offers much more than just intensive swimming training.

The centre, which celebrated its official opening at the beginning of June, boasts a 12.5-meter long, 4.5-meter wide, and 2-meter deep pool. After the construction of a heated stainless steel swimming pool, the pool was installed and filled with water, ready for use.

Achim Gall, who initiated the idea for the pool four years ago, started the construction work next to his house in Uhlandstraße after the planning and permit procedures were complete. The pool's opening was marked by a crawl demonstration from Gall himself, drawing a crowd of 41 guests, including Uhingen Mayor Matthias Wittlinger.

The centre serves as a hub for local residents, promoting health and fitness through swimming and aquatic activities. Beyond elite training, it offers recreational swimming facilities, therapeutic and wellness services, swimming courses, and children’s programmes and play areas.

The centre also hosts swimming competitions, local meets, and community aquatic events. Some facilities incorporate fitness equipment or dry-land training rooms to complement swim training. For those seeking rehabilitation, the centre offers controlled aquatic exercise to assist individuals recovering from injuries.

Education and skill development are key aspects of the centre. It teaches swimming skills for safety, fitness, and sport, while raising awareness and training people in water safety protocols.

The centre's opening was a festive occasion, with performances by artists Anna-Sofia, Lisa, and Julia from Zirkus Rondelli, who showcased gymnastics, dance, and acrobatics. Jens Störl, the Uhingen city councilor, was the first to use the pool in January with a water temperature of 2 degrees, while Klaus Weil, a neighbour living 100 meters from the pool, was the first to use it in autumn with a water temperature of 12 degrees.

Peter Ryl, a specialist in bath operations and swimming master of the outdoor pool, will ensure the safety of the pool. The centre's 'ice bathing' was attempted in the pool during the autumn of the previous year. Gall received a book about the history of Uhingen from the mayor as a token of recognition, and Sarah Schweizer, a member of the state parliament (CDU), was also present at the opening.

Thanks to Achim Gall's craftsmanship, much of the construction work could be done himself, allowing for quick progress. The swimming sports centre in Uhingen is not just a facility dedicated to high-level swim training; it's a comprehensive aquatic facility balancing elite training with community services, education, recreation, and wellness. The centre now offers the opportunity to intensively prepare for the "Master Swimming European Championships" next year in Paris.

The swimming sports centre, built by professional swimmer Achim Gall, offers not only intensive swimming training but also serves as a hub for local residents, featuring recreational swimming, therapeutic services, swimming courses, and children's programs. This unique facility in Uhingen, Germany, hosts swimming competitions, local meets, and community aquatic events, making it a comprehensive aquatic center that caters to both elite athletes and the general public, fostering health, fitness, and water safety.
