Person commits suicide at Sakhi Centre in Jhalawar; relatives call for filing of murder case
A 19-year-old woman from the Bhalata area of Jhalawar district tragically took her own life at a government-run Sakhi One-Stop Centre in Jhalawar city on Monday. The incident has sparked a magisterial inquiry and promises of stern action from the authorities.
According to the Jhalawar Deputy Superintendent of Police, Harshraj Singh, the woman had eloped with a youth from a nearby village a few days prior to the incident. Her family, who are from a scheduled caste community, demanded that a case be registered against the police officers of Bhalata station, the staff of the Sakhi centre, and the youth with whom she eloped.
The woman's body remains in the mortuary, pending family consent for the post-mortem. The family has refused to give consent until their demand is met. SP Amit Kumar has confirmed that a magisterial inquiry has been initiated in the case, and strict action will be taken against those responsible based on the probe and the post-mortem reports.
The previous assurance by SP Amit Kumar regarding stern action based on the probe report still stands. It was allegedly ordered by the authorities or administrators of the Sakhi Centre in Jhalawar to accommodate the woman after her husband and the man she ran away with did not accept her.
The woman was rescued by the police after her husband filed a missing complaint. However, she was placed at the Sakhi centre, where she allegedly hanged herself using her shawl from the ceiling fan in one of the rooms on Tuesday afternoon.
SP Amit Kumar has expressed his condolences to the family and promised to ensure justice is served. The investigation is ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
