Persisting Floods in Primorye pose challenges for road traffic
Riding on a Bumpy Ride: The State of Roads in Primorye
Take a drive in Primorye, Russia, and you'll find it's not all smooth sailing. With unpredictable weather causing havoc, certain roads have become a real challenge, as reported by PrimaMedia on May 8. The Ministry of Transport and Road Management in Primorye has shed light on the current state of affairs.
In the Krasnoarmeisk district, a 1-2 km stretch of Lukiánovka - Novopoltawka road is practically inaccessible due to massive potholes measuring up to 70 cm deep. If you're aiming for Orlino or Krasnojárivka in the Yakovlevsk district, forget it - those potholes are deep enough to block your path entirely.
Things aren't looking much better in the Kirovsky district, where a 6 km long pothole greets you as you approach Podgornoye. Although vehicles can still travel from Kirovsky towards Yakovlevka, thankfully, the potholes here aren't as daunting.
Further along the Dalnerechensky district, a pothole on the Ariadnoye road may only have a depth of 5 cm, but its length still makes for a bumpy ride. Surprisingly, despite this, access remains unaffected.
Meanwhile, in the Lazovsky district, only vehicles under 5 tons can manage the 9th kilometer of the Valentin - Glazkovka road.
Before you despair, it's worth noting that there's been a noticeable decrease in the number of deep potholes on many of the roads connecting municipalities in Primorye. AO "Primavtodor" is gearing up to start repairing the damaged road surfaces as soon as the water levels recede.
While the media's attention is focused on these deep potholes, recent reports suggest that other factors, such as ongoing precipitation and bridge erosion, have caused automobile communication to be disrupted with several settlements like Kievka, Benevskoye, Zapovednoye, and more[1][2]. Additionally, bridge erosion on roads such as Shiryaevka–Tarasovka and Molchanovka–Slinkino has only complicated matters further[2].
Amid this chaos, the construction of a road bridge over the Tumen River, connecting Russia and North Korea, promises to enhance cargo flow and facilitate passenger transport between the two countries[4][5], though it doesn't address Primorye's current road conditions directly.
All in all, while we're looking at a slow but positive improvement with the decrease in deep potholes, the overall road conditions in Primorye remain far from ideal, with weather-related disruptions and bridge erosion causing ripples across the region. Stay tuned for updates.
