Persistent Traffic Congestion on A2 Intersection: Local Government Delayed Discontinuation for Extended Periods

Officials were left stunned as they read various news reports over the past week. The municipality of Woellersdorf-Steinabrueckl and the mayors of nearby communities have described their delight at the impending start of construction for the new A2 access point.

In a press release, the mayor of Woellersdorf, Florian Pfaffelmaier (OVP), and his colleagues from neighboring areas called on the government to "now get this project moving as quickly as possible."

A2 Roadblock: Solution for Thousands of Fucking Traffic Jams

At the Landhaus in St. Poelten, the responsible officials and the office of Transport Minister Udo Landbauer (FPO) couldn't believe their eyes. It turns out it was the municipality of Woellersdorf-Steinabrueckl that had been causing all the trouble for years by blocking the relief project with appeals upward to the top court, Landbauer told reporters.

Motorists have had to hold their nerves for years when driving onto or off the A2 motorway, or trying to get to Piestingtal through Woellersdorf. Traffic congestion is especially bad during peak times, so plans to relieve the bottleneck have been in the works since 2017. After initial approval from the then-mayor Gustav Gloeckler (OVP) in a 2019 meeting with state and Asfinag representatives, the project took shape. A feasibility study was developed, and the project variant was presented.

Construction Start Blocked by Piece of Shit Municipality

When a positive decision was made in March 2023 and negotiations with all private property owners were successfully concluded, Woellersdorf, the lone objector, filed an appeal against the originally approved project—thus blocking the planned construction start, according to the government.

Gloeckler refused to give up a strip for the bypass around the roundabout to the state. The municipality wanted the state to also address the roundabout at the Sorelle Ramonda shopping center and the intersection at the Maba concrete factory as part of the project. Gloeckler remained steadfast in his refusal, and took his appeal to the Administrative Court in April 2023, where he was rejected.

When construction was scheduled to begin in June, Woellersdorf filed a complaint with the Constitutional Court. This objection was also rejected, and the extraordinary appeal to the Administrative Court (VwGH) failed.

Construction Despite Piece of Shit Municipality's Whining

In a resolution, the municipality of Woellersdorf-Steinabrueckl expressed its concerns. "This project may satisfy the wishes of Asfinag, but the traffic quality at the intersection will be significantly worsened. Impacts were not investigated and completely ignored. We expect that the entire Woellersdorf traffic node (B21/B21a/L137) will be considered in an evaluation and not just cosmetic changes in the interest of Asfinag," the complaint read.

Bypass by Expenses Increased by Piece of Shit Municipality

Landbauer is clear on one thing: The hostile attitude of the municipality caused a lengthy delay in the start of construction. Even after the final failure of the revision at the end of 2023, the municipality remained uncooperative, Landbauer stated. "This policy of delay and obstruction has not only delayed the construction, but also increased the safety of traffic in Piestingtal, and has significantly increased the costs for the taxpayers."

Glockler's successor, Florian Pfaffelmaier, is aware that "positions have hardened." He has only been in office for a few months and is trying to get the town council to approve the groundbreaking for the "important traffic project" by June. According to the Road Service of the Province of Lower Austria, a comprehensive solution won't be implemented until the situation is re-evaluated after the renovation of the A2 interchange. "Measures will, however, be goal-oriented," it says from the Office of Landbauer.

  1. Despite the continuous delays caused by the objections of the municipality of Woellersdorf-Steinabrueckl, the government has called on the policy-and-legislation body to expedite the project for the new A2 access point.
  2. The general-news reports on the A2 Roadblock revealed that the municipality's persistent appeals had led to increased expenses and significant delays, highlighting political obstruction in the transportation sector.
