Persistent thief Tanya Liddle prohibited from shopping centers in North East region following 171 theft convictions.
In the North East, a notorious shoplifter infamous for racking up an astounding 171 convictions has been banned from all but three stores within an extensive area. Dubbed as one of the UK's most relentless shoplifters by Northumbria Police, Tanya Liddle, 43, has created chaos for years in the region.
Police reports have documented her persistent targeting of retailers for many years, and despite multiple chances to change her ways, Liddle, a resident of Newcastle, continues to evade justice. Her taste for mischief recently resulted in a £1,500 shoplifting spree at TK Maxx in Cramlington on April 24. CCTV footage captured Liddle, covered in bags and pulling a trolley, trying to flee the scene.
This time, Northumbria Police succeeded in securing a civil injunction against Liddle at the Newcastle Civil Court last week. This legally-binding order, the strictest in the force's history, covers a whopping 2,000 square miles, ranging from the Scottish border down to County Durham and extends across to the coast.
Under the terms of the order, Liddle can only access a pharmacy, a supermarket, and a clothing retailer within the restricted area. Any breach of this agreement could lead to arrest and potentially imprisonment. This meets the force's aim of finally managing Liddle's offending conduct and sending a firm message to other offenders that their actions will not go unpunished.
Inspector Patrick Hannon expressed his satisfaction over the outcome, hailing the efforts of dedicated Northumbria Police officers. "Liddle's repeated targeting of retailers has caused significant harm to the community," Inspector Hannon said, emphasizing that this type of behavior will not be accepted.
