S-Bahn Network Still Suffering Delays and Cancellations Despite Weather Delay Resolution
Persisting Disruptions and Malfunctions in the S-Bahn Transport System - Persistent Disruptions and Service Interruptions in the S-Bahn System Continue
Let's dish the tea on the latest chaos in Berlin's S-Bahn network. After a weather-induced shutdown the previous day, services were back on track in the morning, but chaos still reigns. Nearly all lines are currently experiencing delays and cancellations, with only the Ring line and the S47 remaining unscathed.
Greenhorn storm winds tore through Berlin on Monday, around 6 PM, prompting the S-Bahn network to hit the pause button. With trees being a real threat to the tracks, inspections were necessary for potential damage. The route connecting Berlin and Hamburg, utilized by regional and long-distance trains, was also temporarily closed for several hours.
By 8 PM on Monday, services restarted on two S-Bahn lines, with more lines joining the party later in the evening. By early Tuesday morning, the final remnants of these closing times were lifted, including the S1 line that returned to the schedule at 4:30 AM.
But as if that wasn't enough, the network is currently grappling with additional issues beyond the weather. On lines S41, S42, and S46, delays and cancellations persist due to a recent police operation at Bundesplatz. Although the operation has concluded, residual disruptions lingered.
Lines S5, S7, and S75 are also plagued with delays and cancellations, thanks to a busted signal box (Stellwerk) in Lichtenberg. Adding to the woes, some construction activity has put a dent in the S46 line at Grünau, altering train services and necessitating platform changes.
Given these separate operational hiccups, the S-Bahn network in Berlin remains in a messy situation as of June 25, 2025. To avoid being caught up in this mess, passengers are strongly advised to consult the most recent timetable and platform info before embarking on their journey.
