On April 17, 2020, at 5:35 PM, a significant incident occurred on the L 116 between Neuenhoven and Gierath. A motorcycle accident took place, involving a collision between a motorcycle and a car.

The motorcyclist, an 18-year-old man, was riding with a 17-year-old passenger. The car was driven by a 46-year-old man from Moers. Both vehicles sustained severe damage and had to be towed away. The estimated total damage from the accident is in the low five-figure range.

The local police of the region, typically the traffic police department, is responsible for investigating the accident. The Central Traffic Accident Recording Team was also involved in the investigation, which caused the L 116 to be closed in both directions for an undisclosed duration.
