In a historic achievement, Indian cricketer Shubman Gill scored an impressive 269 runs in the second Test against England at Edgbaston, becoming the first Indian captain to achieve a double century in England. This feat not only sets a new record for the highest score by an Indian captain but also marks the highest score by any Indian player in England, surpassing Virat Kohli's 254* against South Africa in 2019.

Gill's remarkable innings, described as "utterly chanceless" by former England batter Michael Atherton, began during the second session when India was at 419/6. Gill, who was 168* at the time, was joined by Washington Sundar (1*), and the duo went on to form a 144-run stand, dominating the English bowlers and tirelessly wearing them down.

The 25-year-old Gill, who is the second-youngest Indian captain to score a Test double ton, demonstrated a masterful performance, striking the ball at a rate of 69.51, hitting 30 fours and three sixes in 387 balls. His innings saw him join the ranks of Rahul Dravid and Sunil Gavaskar as the third player to score a double ton for India in England against England in Tests.

This achievement marks the second instance of a double ton by an Indian skipper overseas, nine years after Virat Kohli's 200 against West Indies in 2016. Gill is also the first-ever Indian captain to reach the double ton against England in England.

While Gill is the only Indian player to have achieved a 250+ score in England specifically, other notable Indian players with significant overseas achievements include Virat Kohli, who has scored several double centuries, including a double century against the West Indies at North Sound in 2016.

As the Indian team continues to dominate the Test series against England, Shubman Gill's exceptional performance serves as a beacon of inspiration for young cricketers and fans alike. His record-breaking innings will undoubtedly be remembered as a pivotal moment in Indian cricket history.

Shubman Gill's career-defining innings, marked by a record-breaking 269 runs against England, has prompted numerous discussions among cricket enthusiasts about his potential in the sport. As fans and experts alike analyze the news of this historic achievement, the question of whether Gill will surpass his idol, Virat Kohli, in terms of sports accomplishments becomes an intriguing opinion on the horizon for anyone following the sport.
