One Year Since the July Uprising: BNP Marks Anniversary with Victory Rally

Exactly one year after the start of the July Uprising, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) held a Victory Rally in Nayapaltan, marking the significant event that toppled the long-standing autocratic regime of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The rally, attended by BNP leaders and activists, was led by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. In his speech, Alamgir expressed gratitude to the people, political parties, students, and the patriotic army for their cooperation in achieving victory in the July Uprising.

The July Uprising, a student-led anti-discrimination movement, turned violent due to a government crackdown. The protest, which started in July last year, escalated into a nationwide revolt against the autocratic regime, culminating in a brutal crackdown known as the July massacre with over 140 deaths.

The BNP, under the leadership of Tarique Rahman after Begum Khaleda Zia, continued its movement following the uprising. Alamgir paid respect to the martyrs of the July Uprising and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.

The Victory Rally was held before the start of the "Victory Rally" in front of the BNP central office in Nayapaltan on 6 August. The Bangladesh Army played a pivotal role during and after the uprising. After Sheikh Hasina fled to India amidst the crisis, the army chief General Waker-uz-Zaman and President Mohammed Shahabuddin facilitated the formation of an interim government to stabilize the situation. This interim government was led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, chosen by the Students Against Discrimination, the leading movement organization.

The July Uprising was a broad-based democratic revolt initiated by students but sustained through alliances with major political forces including BNP and institutional intervention by the army to end an autocratic rule and establish an interim government. The BNP has faced imprisonment, oppression, and persecution during Hasina's regime but never gave up its fight.

As the anniversary of the July Uprising marks a significant turning point in Bangladesh's political history, the Victory Rally serves as a reminder of the collective resistance and resilience that led to the fall of an autocratic regime and the establishment of a new interim government.

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), during their Victory Rally, acknowledged the crucial roles of politics, war-and-conflicts, and general news in the July Uprising, a significant event that led to the toppling of the autocratic regime. In his speech, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir highlighted the cooperation of various political parties, students, and the patriotic army in achieving victory during the July Uprising, a broadcasted event of war-and-conflicts and general news.
