Three Swimmers Killed in Unauthorized Beach Areas of Odessa Region

In a tragic incident, three swimmers lost their lives in the Ukrainian region of Odessa on the Black Sea. The victims were two men and one woman, who were killed by explosions in unauthorized waters.

The incidents occurred approximately 50 meters from the shore, and Governor Oleh Kiper has warned of ongoing danger both in the water and on land at unauthorized beach areas. The nature of the explosive devices involved in the incidents is currently unclear, and the events are being investigated by authorities.

The Odessa region has been under threat from Russian drones for almost three and a half years, and the region is rife with landmine danger due to the ongoing Russian invasion. This highlights the importance of adhering to safety guidelines and regulations.

In an effort to ensure safety, authorities have officially designated 32 safe swimming zones in the Odessa region. These zones have undergone comprehensive inspections by divers and safety teams to ensure there are no sea mines or other explosive threats either on land or underwater. Monthly inspections of the beaches and sea floors are conducted by divers to detect and neutralize any mines or dangerous objects that may have appeared.

Law enforcement and the Odesa City Council have increased patrols and monitoring of beaches to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety rules. Visitors are strongly urged to swim only in officially permitted areas to avoid mine risks, as recent incidents have resulted in fatalities due to unknown explosions in unsafe areas.

Odesa city officials have built air raid shelters on or near beaches due to the threat of drone and missile strikes. Tourists and beachgoers are advised to pay close attention to air raid sirens, always know the location of the nearest bomb or public shelter, and evacuate promptly to shelters when alerts sound.

Ignoring these safety guidelines is a direct threat to life and health, and beachgoers are urged to follow the instructions of the authorities. Despite the ongoing security threats from landmines and drone attacks, tourists continue to visit Odesa beaches, supported by these layered safety efforts focused on mine clearance, patrolling, and air raid preparedness.

In Karolino-Buhas and Satoka, similar incidents have occurred, resulting in fatalities. These incidents serve as a reminder for beachgoers to follow the instructions of authorities for safety. It is crucial to prioritize safety and adhere to the established guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience at the beaches of Odessa.
