Penny the Doberman Pinscher Claims Westminster's Top Prize at 150th Show

The 150th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show has crowned its latest champion. Penny, a four-year-old Doberman Pinscher, took home the Best in Show title after competing against 2,499 other dogs. The historic event, second only to the Kentucky Derby in age, saw the fifth Doberman Pinscher win the top prize in its long history.

Penny emerged victorious from a field of 204 breeds, impressing the judge in the final round. The competition began with seven group winners, including Graham the Old English Sheepdog (Herding), Zaida the Afghan Hound (Hound), JJ the Lhasa Apso (Non-Sporting), Wager the Smooth Fox Terrier (Terrier), and Cookie the Maltese (Toy). A single judge then selected Penny as the overall winner, with Cota the Chesapeake Bay Retriever named Reserve Best in Show.

This win marks the fifth time a Doberman Pinscher has claimed the title, though only two have done so since 1991. Penny's handler, Andy Linton, also guided the last Doberman Pinscher to victory in 1989. The breed's success at Westminster now includes Penny as the 42nd female dog to ever win Best in Show.

Penny's victory adds another chapter to the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show's 150-year legacy. The four-year-old Doberman Pinscher defeated nearly 2,500 competitors to secure the top honour. Her win also highlights the continued success of her handler, Andy Linton, in the prestigious competition.
