Penguins Honor Fred Rogers with a Heartfelt Neighborhood-Themed Celebration
The Pittsburgh Penguins are set to honour a beloved local figure with the first-ever Mister Rogers' Neighborhood Day on March 1, 2023. The event at PPG Paints Arena will celebrate Fred Rogers' legacy of kindness, compassion, and community—values deeply tied to his Pittsburgh roots. Fans can expect in-arena tributes, exclusive merchandise, and special activations throughout the main event.
Fred Rogers' connection to the Penguins dates back to the 1991-92 season, when he served as the team's Celebrity Captain. Since then, the franchise has maintained a unique bond with his legacy. The only other NHL team to collaborate with Fred Rogers Productions was Pittsburgh itself, during the 2019 'Penguins for Rogers' initiative, which highlighted Rogers' hometown ties.
This year's event will feature in-arena elements inspired by Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, including themed decorations and video tributes. Thanks to support from U.S. Steel, attendees will enjoy concourse activations, cheer card giveaways, and community spotlights during the Steelers game. A special ticket package is also available, offering fans a Penguins-branded Mister Rogers'-style cardigan as a keepsake.
Exclusive merchandise will be sold, including a limited-edition t-shirt from PensGear, blending Penguins and Mister Rogers' Neighborhood branding. Single-game tickets for the event are now on sale through Ticketmaster.
The March 1 celebration marks the Penguins' latest effort to honour Fred Rogers' enduring impact on Pittsburgh. With themed activations, exclusive collectibles, and a focus on community, the event aims to bring fans together in the spirit of Rogers' message. Tickets and special packages remain available for those looking to take part.
