Penguin Chicks Born at Mumbai Zoo Suggestedly Named in Marathi: BJP Proposal

Hustling for a Linguistic Victory in Mumbai: The spirited territory-claiming political frenzy in Mumbai, previously exclusive to mankind, has taken an amusing twist with BJP leaders advocating for Marathi names for penguin chicks hatched at the Byculla Zoo. They assert that these flightless seafarers, birthed in the heart of Maharashtra, deserve Marathi monikers, considering their residence in the state from birth.

While the BJP's rally seems an identity play prior to Mumbai civic body elections, it serves as a platform to elevate the classical stature of the Marathi language.

BJP's Byculla Assembly constituency representative, Nitin Bankar, masterminded the protest.

"Upon importing those epic Antarctic waddlers to the Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Botanical Udyan and Zoo (hashtag Rani Baug), we agreed to their Western tags," he elucidated. "However, chicks sprung in the soil of Maharashtra should flaunt a Marathi identity."

Bankar insists that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) disregarded multiple pleas regarding the issue.

"Our demand was steadfast, but it fell on deaf ears. I had even penned a letter to the BMC administration, but silence ensued," he lamented.

He wonders, if Marathi boasts classical language status, why are we denying it to our on-site penguin chicks?
