Pengfei's 'Take Off' Set for Tokyo Premiere, Acquired by Rediance
Chinese director Pengfei's latest film, 'Take Off', is set to premiere at the Tokyo International Film Festival. The Beijing-based sales agent Rediance has acquired the film ahead of its debut.
Pengfei, who graduated from the International Institute of Image and Sound in France, conducted thorough research in northeast China to ensure the authenticity of 'Take Off'. The film is based on Shuang Xuetao's novella 'The Aeronaut' and follows an ordinary worker's journey to fulfill his father's dream of flying. The cast is led by Jiang Qiming and Li Xueqin.
Rediance, which is handling several titles selected for the 2021 Tokyo International Film Festival, including 'Mother Bhumi' and 'Lost Land', has acquired 'Take Off'. This marks another significant project for the sales agent. Pengfei's earlier films, such as 'Underground Fragrance' and 'Tracing Her Shadow', have been recognized at international film festivals. The director has also previously worked with Taiwanese auteur Tsai Ming-liang.
'Take Off' is backed by several Chinese production companies, including Shanghai Maoyan Pictures and Shanghai Haimu Film Group. However, specific information about the financiers of Pengfei's last film, 'Tracing Her Shadow', is currently unavailable in general databases. Film financing often involves multiple production firms and investors, and details can vary per project. For up-to-date information, it's recommended to consult specific film or industry sources.
With its world premiere at the Tokyo International Film Festival, 'Take Off' promises to be another notable work from director Pengfei. Backed by several Chinese production companies and acquired by Rediance, the film is set to captivate audiences with its unique story and authentic representation of northeast China.
