Penang deploys emergency teams as flood warnings escalate statewide

Penang has activated a specialized emergency team to monitor 20 flood hotspots across the state. The move follows a warning from the Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) about potential flooding between November 19 and 20. Authorities are preparing for possible evacuations if water levels rise dangerously.

The multi-agency response team includes the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS), the Malaysia Civil Defence Force, the Malaysian Army, and local government authorities. These groups will work alongside METMalaysia to track rainfall and river conditions in real time.

The emergency measures aim to reduce risks during the forecasted heavy rain. Evacuation centers and real-time monitoring will help protect residents if flooding happens. Authorities have urged the public to stay alert and follow official instructions.
