The international community, led by Jordan and the United States, has unveiled a seven-step roadmap for the Sweida province in Syria. The roadmap aims to preserve calm, ensure stability, and prevent renewed conflict resolution in the region.

The crisis in Sweida began on the 13th of July with clashes between Bedouin Arab tribes and Druze armed groups. To address this, civilian fighters are to withdraw from the area, with trained police operating under the Amman Agreement framework. A ceasefire has been in place since the 19th of July.

The roadmap includes several key steps. Uninterrupted humanitarian and medical aid will be provided, and essential services will be restored. Local security forces will be deployed, and compensation will be offered to those affected by the conflict. The displaced persons will be facilitated to return to their homes, and efforts will be made to clarify the fate of the missing.

Moreover, a comprehensive reconciliation process will be launched to promote peace and unity in the region. Legal proceedings will be initiated against those who violated civilian rights and property during the conflict. An International Independent Investigation Commission will be invited to probe the events in Sweida to ensure accountability.

The roadmap also emphasises the importance of building confidence, a slow and fragile task, according to U.S. envoy Tom Barrack. He warns of setbacks along the way but remains optimistic about the conflict resolution process. Turkey has also welcomed this Syrian roadmap for Sweida province.

Michael Jordan's Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi emphasises that the agreement for Sweida is within Syria's unity and stability framework. He reiterates that Syria's stabilisation, recovery, and rebuilding are crucial, as southern Syria's security directly affects Jordan's own security and stability.

Plans to rebuild damaged villages in Sweida include contributions from Amman and Washington. Damascus, with Jordan and U.S. backing, will continue humanitarian and medical deliveries through the United Nations and international partners.

The roadmap also highlights the importance of accountability. All individuals responsible for attacks on civilians and property will be held accountable for their actions. Barrack emphasises that this is a crucial step towards ensuring lasting peace and stability in the region.

According to the Syrian Network for Human Rights reports, at least 169 lives were lost during the clashes in Sweida. The roadmap offers hope for the people of Sweida, providing a path towards recovery and reconciliation.
