Meeting Today: PDP Inaugurates Newly Elected Members of the Board of Trustees
PDP Prepares to Introduce fresh Trustee Board Members amid Internal Ruffles
Today, the people's democratic party (PDP) is setting the stage for a fresh chapter as they are all geared up to inaugurate the newly appointed members of their Board of Trustees (BoT) at the National Executive Committee (NEC) Hall, Wadata Plaza, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.
Kick-starting at 11 a.m., this momentous event is scheduled to take place today (Monday), as confirmed by the PDP's Director of Publicity, Chinwe Nnorom, via a circular.
The circular, dated May 11, 2025, highlights the inauguration of new members for the PDP BoT that's set to occur on Monday, May 12, 2025, at the NEC Hall (Ground Floor), PDP National Headquarters.
Despite 85 out of the 127 members of the PDP BoT having been largely inactive in party affairs, according to a Punch report on February 9, 2025, this inauguration is recognized as an endeavor to revitalize the board amidst escalating internal challenges within the party.
Role of the Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees (BoT) plays a pivotal role within the PDP, functioning as its moral compass. Some of its key responsibilities include:
- Maintaining high standards of morality and image: Ensuring the party upholds ethical principles.
- Providing strategic advice: Guiding the party's decision-making and policy-making processes.
- Solving disputes: Resolving internal conflicts to promote unity within the party.
- Protecting party assets: Safeguarding the party's resources and assets[1].
The Board of Trustees is composed of former presidents, vice presidents, past and present national chairmen, Senate presidents, speakers of the House, founding members, and notable figures from all geopolitical zones and states[1].
Meanwhile, the PDP governors and prominent party stakeholders convened in Abuja on Sunday for a high-level meeting at the Bauchi State Governor's Lodge to tackle the party's internal crisis and forge a path forward. This gathering, spearheaded by Bauchi State Governor and PDP Governors' Forum Chairman, Bala Mohammed, involved key figures such as Ademola Adeleke, Caleb Mutfwang, Seyi Makinde, Ahmadu Fintiri, Peter Mbah, and Dauda Lawal, as well as PDP Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, BoT Secretary and former Kaduna State Governor Ahmed Makarfi, and other former governors like Bukola Saraki, Aminu Tambuwal, and Sule Lamido[2].
As the party prepares for the National Elective Convention and the NEC meeting scheduled for May 27, discussions at the meeting are expected to focus on the ongoing dispute over the National Secretary position, recent defections from the party, and strategic planning for future elections.
