The Punk Godmother Gets Hospitalized
Seventy-six-year-old rock legend Patti Smith had to abandon her Italian tour due to an unexpected health issue. The celebrated artist, fondly known as the "Godmother of Punk," spent a single day in the hospital in Bologna before being discharged in good health. However, her subsequent gigs in Venice and Milan had to be postponed.
Hospital Discharge and Instagram Tribute
According to the Los Angeles Times, Smith was discharged after a brief stay in the emergency room, and the medical team assured her speedy return to the stage after an "appropriate rest period." Smiling alongside hospital staff in an Instagram post, Smith paid tribute to her late friend Tom Verlaine, who would have celebrated his 74th birthday on December 13.
Cancellation of Shows
Smith had been on tour in Italy, having already performed in Modena, Naples, Pescara, and Ancona. Apart from the canceled concert in Bologna, her shows in Venice and Milan were also postponed, as the health reasons are yet to be disclosed. It remains unclear if the postponed gigs will be rescheduled.
Upcoming Tour Plans
Inspite of the setbacks, Smith is preparing for her 50th-anniversary tour for her album "Horses." Beginning on October 6, 2025, in Dublin, Ireland, the tour will span across Europe and the United States, concluding on November 29, 2025, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Presale and General Ticket Sales
Presale for the US shows commenced on February 12, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. local time, with general sales following suit on February 14, 2025, at the same hour. Ticketmaster is handling all ticket sales for the US concerts. Before embarking on her main tour, Smith has several shows lined up, including performances in Germany, Switzerland, and the U.S., in June and July 2025.
