In the early hours of August 5, 2025, a pilot for EasyJet was found naked and drunk at a luxury hotel bar in Cape Verde, Africa. The pilot, who was due to fly passengers back to London Gatwick approximately 36 hours later, was immediately suspended and stood down from duty pending an internal investigation.

According to reports, the pilot arrived at Melia Dunas Beach Resort and Spa on August 4 and engaged in an extended drinking session at the bar until the early hours of August 5. Around 2:30 a.m., he stripped naked and walked around the hotel’s reception area, gym, and spa, causing alarm among guests, some of whom recognized him as the upcoming pilot for their flight.

EasyJet responded promptly by grounding the pilot when informed, in accordance with their business ethics and safety protocols. The airline emphasized that passenger and crew safety is their highest priority and described the pilot's behavior as "breathtakingly unprofessional" and "the height of stupidity". The pilot's career reportedly "doomed" following the incident.

The incident led to the cancellation of the flight that the grounded pilot was supposed to fly. A replacement pilot was used for the return journey to prevent any disruption. No further public details about the investigation's outcome or disciplinary measures have been released yet, but the pilot's suspension and replacement for the flight indicate serious repercussions are underway.

The incident occurred last week on the Cape Verde Islands, and the pilot was recognized by passengers in the early morning hours. EasyJet has not yet released any official statement regarding the investigation's progress, but the airline's swift action in grounding the pilot demonstrates their commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards.

The pilot's actions at the hotel bar in Cape Verde, including engaging in sports (drinking), led to his suspension and replacement on August 5, 2025. EasyJet's priority on professionalism and safety protocols was evident in their swift action to ground the pilot, potentially putting his career in jeopardy.
