In the political landscape of Germany, a significant development is unfolding. Sahra Wagenknecht, a well-known politician and the founder of a new party called BSW (Alliance for Sahra Wagenknecht), has left The Left party, causing a stir in the political sphere.

The Left party, also known as Die Linke, is a German political party with representatives in the Bundestag and several state parliaments. However, the party is currently in a crisis, with internal conflicts and a lack of unity evident. The European elections in June saw The Left Party receiving only 2.7 percent of the vote, a significant drop from previous elections.

The Left Party, traditionally stronger in East Germany, prioritises social policy. Yet, its performance in the recent European elections and in polls for the upcoming East German state elections has been disappointing. The AfD (Alternative for Germany) leads the opinion polls in these elections, with surveys showing them at around 37-39% in states like Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia, significantly ahead of the CDU and other parties.

Meanwhile, BSW is trailing The Left party in the polls for the upcoming East German state elections. Wagenknecht, known for her views that differ from The Left party, including wanting fewer refugees in Germany and fewer climate protection regulations, is at the helm of this new party.

Climate refers to the long-term weather patterns in a particular place, and changes slowly over time. Changes in climate can lead to other shifts, like melting polar ice or expanding deserts. It is a global issue that requires collective action, and The Left Party's stance on climate protection regulations might have contributed to its decline in popularity.

As for The Left Party, after October, Wissler and Schirdewan will continue as leaders. However, many members of the party wish for new leaders, and after October, The Left party will elect new leaders. The future of both The Left Party and BSW remains uncertain, with the political landscape in Germany poised for change.

The first European elections took place in 1979, with each citizen having one vote to determine who represents them in the European Parliament. As the political landscape evolves, it is essential for citizens to stay informed and engaged in the democratic process. The European elections in 2024 are fast approaching, and the decisions made during these elections will have a significant impact on the future of Germany and Europe as a whole.
