party exodus: PDP requires significant membership overhaul - former Oyo Attorney General suggests

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is bleeding out, according to former Oyo State Attorney General, Mutalubi Adebayo. This gruesome analogy highlights the gravity of the current political crisis the PDP finds itself in, and the party needs swift action to stop the bleeding.

Adebayo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), went on a Channels Television program, Politics Today, slamming the PDP for being in a state of shambles. He argued that the party needs an emergency blood transfusion to survive – a rather graphic way of expressing the urgent need for reforms.

"The umbrella is splintered, broken. Who is running the PDP now? Who's the bloomin' Chairman? The PDP is in a serious crisis," he exclaimed heatedly.

As the party bleeds members, events like the recent wave of defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) paint a grim picture for the PDP's future. Adebayo refused to sugarcoat his concerns, stating that the deaths could be averted with proper interventions.

"PDP is undergoing political hemorrhage... It may die; it may linger. But the PDP needs some serious blood transfusion so that it doesn't bleed out," he warned ominously.

What's more, the defections from the PDP – one of the key platforms that brought Delta State lawmakers to power – have continued unabated. Notable figures like Senator (Ned) Nwoko, Senator James Manager, and other parliamentarians have abandoned ship and joined the APC. This exodus, according to Adebayo, was akin to a tsunami.

However, challenging these defections might not yield immediate fruit legislatively, but the battle could continue in the courts.

"They may or may not succeed. But if they fail, they can take it to court. By now, a verdict could've been made," said Adebayo.
