A Warning Sign for the APC: PDP South South Chair Sounds the Alarm on Mass Defection

Party Disunity Predicted: APC South South Chairman's Statement

In a bold move, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South South Chairman, Emma Ogidi, has issued a warning to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), predicting their downfall due to a mass exodus of its members.

As reported by our site, Ogidi admonished the APC, labeling it as a treacherous, shark-infested river that cannot survive an implosion. In an exclusive interview with Vanguard, the South South PDP leader also criticized his party's politicians who defected to the APC, describing them as opportunists who will be unable to escape the party's destructive currents.

"Let me tell you straight, a storm is brewing in the APC, and I foresee their impending implosion. That river is filled with sharks, and anyone who gets too close will soon realize its true nature," Ogidi declared.

The PDP leader expressed concern over the remarks of Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State. Nevertheless, he acknowledged that the PDP has held the majority of governors in the past and yet failed to secure victories in elections. He argued that an increase in APC governors does not equate to guaranteed electoral success.

"We've been here before; when we had more governors, we still lost the elections. So, let's not be deceived by numbers alone. The ordinary man holds the key to this election," he said.

Ogidi emphasized that the APC's struggles stem from their failure to address the concerns of the masses, who are plagued by hunger and insecurity. He maintained his refusal to defect to the APC, stating, "You cannot play politics with hunger. When you're hungry, you're hungry. When there's insecurity, there's insecurity. You cannot politicize that."

The Undercurrent of Political Defections

Mass defections, a common occurrence in Nigerian politics, can have far-reaching consequences, such as eroding a party's internal stability, shaping public perceptions, shifting political momentum, causing leadership crises, and triggering reorganization efforts.

Such events can expose deep-seated dissatisfaction within political parties, as members seek greener pastures and new opportunities. However, the ultimate impact of such exodus depends on the receiving party's capacity to capitalize on the influx and maintain unity, while the donor party must adapt and regroup to confront the challenges posed by its losses.

In the swirling political waters of Nigeria, the APC's survival hangs in the balance as defections continue to test its resolve.
