Fabian Hambüchen discovered gymnastics at just four years old and got his first taste of success under the tutelage of his father, Wolfgang Hambüchen, a former gymnast himself. By age sixteen, Hambüchen competed in the Olympic Games in Athens. Over the next decade, he participated in three more Olympics, culminating in a gold medal win on the rings in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. With 23 international medals and 40 German championship titles to his name, Hambüchen is the most successful gymnast in German history and was named Germany's Sportsman of the Year twice[4].
