Unrau's Special ConnectionFor 45 years, Burkhardt Unrau has organized the fair in Bergisch Gladbach, and this year, he'll be there when the newly designed autoscooter, "Route 66," is blessed for the first time. That's a ride with a personal connection for Unrau, and it's the highlight of the fair for him.

Fair Time! From June 7 to 10, showmen will set up their attractions on Konrad-Adenauer-Platz and around the Bergischer Löwe. Along with classic rides like autoscooters, music express, and the thrilling "Break Dance," there'll be a nostalgic 15-meter-high Ferris wheel, the "Chaos Factory," and several family-friendly rides.

Bringing Joy and VarietyIn these tough times, the fair offers a respite, a chance for adults and children to come together, relax, and enjoy the festivities. "Each year is different," says Burkhardt Unrau, "and each year poses its own challenges. But it's the special moments like these that make it worth it."

A Long-standing TraditionThe fair has been around for over 175 years, dating back to 1842, making it a significant part of Bergisch Gladbach's cultural heritage. "It's a place where people come together, leaving their daily lives behind," says Mayor Frank Stein, expressing his gratitude to Unrau for his long-term commitment.

The Return of "Route 66""Route 66" is a 38-year-old autoscooter that was once owned by the late Günter Barth. After his passing, his daughter, Bärbel Barth, hesitated about continuing the business, given the investment needed to modernize it. But she eventually decided to carry on the tradition.

Blessing and Opening CeremoniesPentecost Saturday (June 7) will mark the debut of the revamped Autoscooter, with a special blessing ceremony taking place at 10 AM. Dean Norbert Höter will lead the blessing on Konrad-Adenauer-Platz. Following the blessing, the fair will be officially opened with a beer barrel tapping at 12 PM by Mayor Frank Stein, District Administrator Stephan Santelmann, Dean Norbert Höter, and Showmen's spokesperson Burkhardt Unrau.

Keep the Tradition Alive"The fair can only continue if people come to it," says Burkhardt Unrau. Although the fair industry has faced challenges due to COVID-19, things are improving. But the focus should be on the next generation—both among visitors and showmen—to ensure the fair's future continuity.

The fair concludes with a fireworks display on Tuesday, June 10. See you there!

The special moment of the fair for Burkhardt Unrau is the blessing of the newly designed autoscooter, "Route 66," which holds a personal connection for him.
