The National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Commission, a parliamentary body tasked with examining the legal, social, and political dimensions of Turkey's anti-terrorism campaign, will hold its 10th session on September 17. The commission, dedicated to the government's "terror-free Türkiye" initiative, will be in focus next week, with particular emphasis on the role of the Turkish Parliament Speaker and Chair of this commission, Numan Kurtulmuş.

A DEM Party delegation and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) have signalled their intention to travel to İmralı prison island this week to continue contacts with Abdullah Ocalan, the imprisoned leader of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). The main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) has voiced objections to this potential visit.

The PKK declared a ceasefire under the government's anti-terrorism campaign, and later announced plans to disarm and dissolve after a call from Ocalan. Civil society groups from Turkey's Kurdish-majority eastern provinces will address the commission on September 18.

Experts in conflict resolution are expected to present testimony and recommendations during the 10th session. The commission has already held nine meetings, with testimony from various officials and representatives. Lawmakers are expected to draft proposals for possible legal reforms after the consultation phase is complete.

In addition to the main sessions, the commission will hear from academics and non-governmental organizations in two days of meetings this week. On September 18, the commission will also hear from civil society groups.

The discussions come at a critical juncture for the peace process in Türkiye, as the government continues to push for a peaceful resolution to the long-standing conflict with the PKK. The commission's work is crucial in ensuring that the anti-terrorism campaign is carried out effectively while respecting the rights and freedoms of all Türkiye's citizens.
