Parliamentary Commission Reviews Anti-Terrorism Campaign, Considers Öcalan Invitation
A parliamentary commission is currently reviewing the government's anti-terrorism campaign. The National Solidarity, Fraternity, and Democracy Commission is set to hold its 13th session, inviting law associations and legal academics to provide insights on potential legal and political reforms.
Previous sessions have seen the commission gather input from diverse groups and individuals. On Oct. 2, the commission will hear from representatives of several law associations and law professors, focusing on issues related to the 'Terror-Free Turkey' program. While specific organizations are yet to be confirmed, the aim is to foster bipartisan cooperation.
The commission, led by Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş, is overseeing the government's 'terror-free Türkiye' initiative. It has not ruled out the possibility of inviting Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan to testify, should a proposal be made. Once consultations are complete, lawmakers are expected to draft reform proposals.
