Park closure partially enforced in Chiang Mai due to landslide event
The Huai Nam Dang National Park has temporarily closed its Doi Kiew Lom viewpoint and certain tourist lodges following a landslide and fallen trees that occurred on Sunday.
The Doi Kiew Lom viewpoint, a popular tourist attraction, will remain closed until August 17, 2025, to allow the Provincial Electricity Authority to carry out repairs to the power system that was damaged by the incident.
Additionally, lodges 103, 104, and 105 will remain closed with suspended bookings until September 30, 2025, to enable building repairs and landscape restoration for safety. These closures affect multiple lodges within the park, and online bookings for these specific lodges have been suspended until September.
The risk of injury to visitors was posed by the accident, which caused damage to power poles and a tourist lodge. The landscape restoration is also part of the work to be done at the national park, ensuring the facilities are ready for use when the closures are lifted.
The park remains partially closed in stages. The viewpoint was closed until August 17, and lodging facilities are closed until September 30 as of the current date, August 19, 2025. The closures were announced on Monday.
The suspension of bookings affects lodges 103, 104, and 105 specifically, but it is not limited to the Doi Kiew Lom viewpoint. Some tourist lodgings in Huai Nam Dang National Park have also been closed to ensure the safety of the facilities at the park.
Repairs are necessary for the safety of the facilities at Huai Nam Dang National Park, and the closures are to allow time for these repairs to be completed. The park officials are working diligently to ensure the area is safe for visitors and the facilities are in top condition before reopening.
