Paris to Open First Open-Air Picasso Museum in 2030
Paris is set to honour its famous son, Pablo Picasso, with the first open-air museum dedicated to the artist. The Paris Picasso Sculpture Park is scheduled to open in 2030, featuring a dozen of his bronze sculptures and offering free entry to the public.
The park, which will be an extension of the Picasso Museum, is expected to start construction in 2028. It will span the size of two Olympic-size swimming pools and include a cafe-restaurant, allowing visitors to interact with the artworks.
The project was conceived through dialogue with the Picasso family, notably Paloma, Picasso's daughter. Paloma Picasso has supported the project, describing it as 'as lively as my father' and a wonderful way for Paris to honour her talented father. The museum is also planning to build a new wing to double its space for temporary exhibitions.
The Paris Picasso Sculpture Park is set to cost approximately 50 million euros ($60 million) and is backed by Paris city authorities and the French culture ministry. The park will be a significant addition to Paris's cultural landscape, offering a unique opportunity for the public to engage with Picasso's sculptures.
