Tennis Showdown at French Open 2025
Let's talk tennis, y'all! The highly-anticipated semifinals at the 2025 French Open are heating up, with none other than the world number one, Aryna Sabalenka, and the defending champion, Iga Swiatek, squaring off at Stade Roland Garros.
Sabalenka clinched her spot in the semis after outsmarting Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen from China, winning 7:6 (7:3), 6:3. This marks her second Semifinals appearance at Roland Garros, following her 2023 attempt.
Meanwhile, Swiatek extended her incredible winning streak at Stade Roland Garros to a whopping 26 matches, defeating Ukrainian Elina Svitolina 6:1, 7:5. The Polish powerhouse has held the French Open title for the last three years, and she's clearly not showing any signs of slowing down!
Sabalenka vs. Zheng Qinwen
Sabalenka had a tough start against Zheng Qinwen, struggling particularly in the first set and getting broken early on. "Honestly, I'm not sure how I came back in the first set," admitted Sabalenka. With renewed determination, she dominated the second set and clinched her first set point after almost two hours. Sabalenka had previously lost to Zheng Qinwen in the finals of the tournament in Rome just before Roland Garros.
Swiatek vs. Svitolina
Swiatek caught fire from the start against Svitolina, giving the Ukrainian little room for comebacks. Although Svitolina rallied in the second set and came close to turning the match around, Swiatek managed to break early and secure her advancement in just 1 hour, 41 minutes. "I'm really excited to face off against Aryna in the semis," said Swiatek.
