"Paramount Pictures acquires the Scott Free Productions thriller 'Here Be Monsters', with Joachim Rønning, director of 'Tron: Ares', set to helm the project"
Renowned director Joachim Rønning, known for his comfort with water-themed films, has been tapped to helm the intense survival thriller "Here Be Monsters". The project, produced by Scott Free and Skydance, marks Rønning's latest collaboration with these production companies.
"Here Be Monsters", recently acquired by Paramount Pictures, is the latest big franchise-able IP to join the studio's roster since Skydance took over. The sea-set survival thriller, which was brought to Scott Free by Rønning himself, promises to deliver a gripping adventure reminiscent of classics like "Alien" and "The Thing".
Rønning, who hails from a small coastal town in Norway, has a rich filmography that includes "The Young Woman and the Sea" and "Kon-Tiki". He also directed "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" with childhood friend Espen Sandberg, and more recently, "Maleficent: Mistress of Evil". For "Here Be Monsters", Rønning has collaborated with his brother Andreas Rønning on the screenplay.
The latest revisions of the script were done by Noah Harpster and Micah Fitzerman-Blue, who are also represented by UTA. Scott Free, the production company for "Here Be Monsters", is represented by CAA. Rønning's representation includes UTA and Sloane Offer.
Joachim Rønning's next film, "Tron: Ares", will be released theatrically by Disney on October 10. Rønning has retained a level of comfort with water in the films he has helmed, making "Here Be Monsters" an exciting addition to his portfolio.
With its franchise ambitions and Rønning's proven ability to deliver thrilling, water-themed films, "Here Be Monsters" is set to be a standout addition to Paramount Pictures' lineup. The film is being produced by David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger, with Ridley Scott, Michael Pruss, and Rebecca Feuer serving as producers for Scott Free.
