Chaos at the IPL Match in Dharamshala: An Emotional Story from a Cheerleader
"Panic unfolded...": Cheerleader remembers chaos as IPL game gets postponed in Dharmshala
The 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at Dharamshala took an unexpected twist after reports of violence from Pakistan sent shockwaves across India on a Thursday evening.
The bustling Dharamshala stadium was abruptly deserted when spectators were notified of the match's termination. Panic ensued as the crowd was asked to leave calmly, with players and team staff escorted off the premises under heavy security, as reported by ANI.
One of the IPL cheerleaders recounted the gripping scene in a viral video on social media. In the video, she shares her emotional account of the chaotic events.
"In the midst of the game, the stadium was evacuated. Everyone was shouting that bombs were imminent. It was incredibly terrifying. I believe the IPL authorities will take care of us. I can't believe why I'm not crying; I think I'm just still in a state of shock," the cheerleader said, her voice cracking with emotion.
Following the sudden blackout in the stadium, staff and security personnel began urgently guiding spectators, players, and match officials off the premises. The IPL eventually confirmed via their official communication channel that the match had been officially cancelled.
As an extraordinary measure, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) organized a special Vande Bharat train to safely transport players from Delhi Capitals (DC) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), as well as the entire IPL broadcast team, from Dharamshala to Delhi.
Initially, it was thought that the blackout was due to a technical malfunction with one of the floodlight towers. However, as more lights went out and security concerns escalated, officials deemed it necessary to evacuate the stadium to ensure everyone's safety.
India Braces for Attacks as Pakistan Strikes
Preliminary reports suggest that Pakistan targeted multiple locations in India, including Satwari, Samba, RS Pura, and Arnia. Fortunately, Indian air defence systems successfully intercepted all eight incoming missiles. Additionally, Indian forces reportedly shot down drones from Pakistan over Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir and near Jaisalmer in Rajasthan.
In response to these heightened tensions, numerous precautions were taken, including imposing power cuts in several areas such as Bikaner, Jalandhar, Kishtwar, Akhnoor, Samba, Jammu, and Amritsar, to maintain a low profile and shield civilians from potential threats.
The escalating conflict between India and Pakistan had earlier prompted India to launch Operation Sindoor, after a devastating terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 people. This operation involved retaliatory strikes on terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The Indian government vowed to respond vigorously to any further attacks on their military bases.
