Bus and Metro in Palma Increase Prices - Palma’s fare hike targets tourists while locals keep riding for free

Bus and metro fares in Palma, Mallorca are set to rise from €2 to €3 per journey. The increase, which requires final debate and approval in the full council, will only affect tourists and second-home owners, as locals ride for free. The fare hike comes after many regions in Spain introduced heavily subsidized public transport fares for commuters in September 2022. Palma offered free monthly passes and entirely fare-free local transit. Officials have justified the price increase due to rising costs. It remains unclear if fares for airport and port routes will also see a rise. The new fare structure, if approved, will see a single journey cost €3. The increase will not impact locals, who continue to enjoy free rides. The final decision rests with the Palma city council.
