Palestinians persistently depart from Gaza
The Israeli army has escalated its operations in the city of Gaza, targeting observation posts belonging to terrorist organizations and neutralizing weapons and explosive devices, according to official statements. This offensive has driven nearly half of the city's residents to flee, with an estimated 450,000 Palestinians seeking refuge in Israel.
The latest attacks have reportedly resulted in the death of an unspecified number of enemies, including a high-ranking member of a Hamas battalion, according to military reports. Medical sources in the Gaza Strip report at least 35 deaths since the morning, bringing the total death toll since the conflict began to over 65,000, with no distinction made between civilians and combatants.
The refugees are left with only one escape route, Al-Rashid Street along the coast towards the southwest. However, a temporarily opened second escape route from the city to the southwest of the Gaza Strip was closed again by the Israeli army.
Many Palestinians are unable to transport their few belongings, are exhausted, or ill, and do not trust Israeli assurances of safety in the so-called humanitarian zones in the southwest. The people who have remained unharmed in the areas designated by Israel as safe zones in Gaza city since the beginning of Israel's military action are mostly the Palestinians who stayed there during limited ceasefires intended for humanitarian relief. However, these ceasefires have ended, and no clear evacuation order has been issued, leaving the situation in Gaza city uncertain and dangerous.
Before the military action, approximately one million people resided in the city of Gaza. The claims of both sides cannot currently be independently verified. It is important to note that Hamas is responsible for massacres in Israel on October 7, 2023, resulting in approximately 1,200 deaths and over 250 abductions. The Israeli army is currently fighting Hamas and other extremist groups in the Gaza Strip.
As the conflict continues, many Palestinians are still fleeing the city towards the southwest, seeking safety and refuge. The future remains uncertain, and the international community is urged to take action to bring peace to the region.
