Palestinians Rush Food Distribution Center in Gaza Amid Aid Delivery Delays

In southern Gaza, a new food distribution center was stormed by numerous Palestinians, according to Israeli media reports. The chaos prompted employees of a US company to temporarily withdraw, as reported by the Israeli news portal "ynet." US security personnel discharged warning shots.

Subsequently, Palestinian rescue forces reported that three individuals were killed and dozens injured by Israeli army fire near the center in Rafah. An Israeli military spokesperson stated that the incident was under investigation.

Amidst a months-long Israeli blockade of aid supplies, which has recently eased, many people in the contested coastal strip are experiencing critical living conditions. Reports indicated looting during the storming of the distribution center.

The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), recently established, stated that due to the large influx of people, the GHF team had temporarily withdrawn "to allow a small number of Gaza residents to take aid supplies in a safe manner and disperse." The team followed security procedures to prevent casualties. Normal operations have since resumed.

Hamas voice their dissatisfaction with the new aid distribution mechanism in Gaza due to fears of losing control and influence over vital humanitarian supplies. They have called on Gaza residents to boycott the new distribution mechanism and demand its return to the United Nations.

Israel is aggressively pushing for the GHF to handle future aid distribution to prevent Hamas from stealing and reselling supplies. UN representatives argue that Israel has not provided sufficient evidence for this claim. The four GHF distribution centers in the south and center of Gaza are to be managed by US security firms, bypassing UN and other international aid organizations as per Israel's wishes.

  1. The Commission, consisting of the European Parliament, should closely monitor the situation in Gaza, given the ongoing wars-and-conflicts, politics, general-news, crime-and-justice incidents, and accidents associated with the recent aid distribution issues.
  2. As the Palestinian rescue forces investigate the incidents surrounding the food distribution center in Rafah, the European Parliament may find it necessary to address war-and-conflicts, crime-and-justice issues linked to the distribution of humanitarian aid in the region.
  3. In light of Hamas's dissatisfaction with the newly established Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) taking over aid distribution, discussions on politics, general-news, and crime-and-justice concerns may arise in the European Parliament, focusing on ensuring fair and unbiased distribution of essential supplies to the Palestinians in Gaza.
