Palestine's evacuation of Gaza is momentarily stopped due to antisemitic online posts by a Palestinian student in France.
In a recent turn of events, a female student from Gaza, identified as Nour A., has been expelled from Sciences Po Lille in France and is facing deportation due to reposting antisemitic content on social media. The posts reportedly included extreme antisemitic language and images, including a photo of Adolf Hitler with a caption calling for killing Jews.
Nour A. arrived in France in early July 2025 to begin a master's degree at Sciences Po Lille, a prestigious university known for its commitment to academic excellence. However, her actions have been deemed incompatible with the university’s values, which fight against all forms of racism, antisemitism, and discrimination, as well as against any type of incitement to hatred, against any population whatsoever.
The criminal investigation against Nour A. in Lille includes charges related to "apology of terrorism" and "apology of crimes against humanity using an online public communication service." The incident has triggered a national political controversy, with the interior minister denouncing her content as Hamas propaganda.
Following the revelation, France suspended all evacuations of Gazans to France pending the outcome of this inquiry. The French Foreign Minister, Jean-Noel Barrot, stated that no evacuation will occur until an investigation is concluded. He also confirmed that Nour A. "must leave the country."
In response to the incident, France has ordered enhanced security screenings for all Gazans already evacuated to France to prevent similar incidents. The investigation is ongoing, and the government is considering the student's return to Gaza.
It is worth noting that Nour A.'s arrival in France was based on "academic excellence" and followed "security checks." The student was offered a place at Sciences Po Lille university following a recommendation by the French consulate in Jerusalem. However, the screening carried out by the relevant departments of the ministries concerned "clearly did not work," according to Foreign Minister Barrot.
The Israel-Hamas conflict was triggered by Hamas's deadly attack on Israel on 7 October. Hamas is involved in the conflict and is designated as a terrorist group by both the EU and the US.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding values of tolerance and respect for all, and the need for thorough security checks to ensure the safety and integrity of society.
