Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif admitted on Monday that the Pakistani military was prepared to launch an offensive against India on May 10, which was thwarted by Indian strikes on multiple targets across Pakistan overnight on May 9-10.

As Sharif spoke at a summit in Lachin, Azerbaijan, he acknowledged that the Pakistani armed forces had been planning an attack on India at 4:30 a.m. following Fajr prayers on May 10. However, Indian forces had preemptively launched missile attacks, with the BrahMos missiles hitting various provinces, including the airport in Rawalpindi.

The PM further revealed that Indian missiles had targeted the Nur Khan Airbase in Rawalpindi and other key locations, as he recounted during a previous event at the Pakistan Monument in Islamabad. Despite setbacks and the significant damage caused, General Asim Munir was later promoted to Field Marshal for his role in leading Pakistan’s military response, Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos.

Despite the military setbacks, Sharif continues to advocate for talks with India to resolve disputes, particularly regarding the Kashmir issue and the water issue. During a visit to Tehran, he urged, "We want to resolve all disputes through negotiations." However, India maintains that talks cannot occur alongside terrorism and other hostile actions.

Recent tensions between India and Pakistan started when Operation Sindoor was launched by India on May 7 as a direct retaliation to the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22. Indian forces precisely targeted and destroyed nine terrorist camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, resulting in over 100 militant casualties. The operation triggered four days of intense clashes between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

A ceasefire agreement was later reached on May 10, bringing an end to the latest round of hostilities. However, the incident intensified already heightened military and diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan. The episode also underscored strategic challenges for India in managing international perceptions and maintaining control over messaging surrounding military engagements.

  1. In the midst of the ceasefire agreement, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the importance of dialogue with India to address issues like Kashmir and water disputes, during his visit to Tehran.
  2. Meanwhile, India has held a firm stance, stating that talks cannot progress while terrorism and hostile actions continue, marking a potential obstacle in diplomatic relations.
  3. The sports world, meanwhile, remained unaffected as India and Pakistan prepared for their upcoming cricket match, raising questions about the impact of political tensions on sports-related events.
  4. Amidst the increasing popularity of online platforms for sports-betting, there's been growing interest in predicting whether future conflicts between India and Pakistan will impact their cricket matches.
