Pakistani all-rounder Saim Ayub excels with both batting and bowling, leading Pakistan to a victory over the West Indies in their first T20 match.

In the opening match of the three-match T20 series between Pakistan and the West Indies, held in Lauderhill, it was Mohammad Nawaz who delivered a pivotal performance that turned the tide for the Pakistani team.

Nawaz, the left-arm spinner, claimed a remarkable three-wicket over in the 12th over of the West Indies' innings. After conceding 20 runs in his first three overs, Nawaz demonstrated his ability to deliver breakthroughs in key moments. He dismissed West Indies debutant Jewel Andrew (35), breaking a 72-run opening partnership, and followed it up with the wickets of Johnson Charles (35) and Gudakesh Motie (0) on the fourth and fifth balls of the same over. This sparked a collapse that saw West Indies slump to 75-3, significantly hindering their chase of Pakistan’s total of 178 for six.

The performance by Nawaz was instrumental in Pakistan securing a 14-run win in the series-opening Twenty20 international held in Florida. Saim Ayub, the all-rounder, also played a significant role, scoring 57 runs from 38 deliveries and taking 2 wickets for 20 runs, earning him the player of the match award.

The West Indies' batting struggled throughout the match, with captain Shai Hope scoring just 2 runs before being dismissed by Saim Ayub. Jason Holder, who scored 12-ball 30 for the West Indies, including four sixes, was the only West Indian batsman to offer some resistance. However, the West Indies lost four wickets for five runs at one point during their innings, and ultimately finished their innings on 164-7, losing the match by 14 runs.

Shamar Joseph, the West Indian bowler, returned 3-30 from his four overs in the match, while Joseph also scored 21 from 12 deliveries with the bat. The second and third T20 matches will be held in Lauderhill on Saturday and Sunday. Following the T20 series, an ODI series will take place in the Caribbean.
