Pakistan victories UAE, setting up a rematch with India in the Asia Cup competition
In the ongoing Asia Cup 2025, Pakistan emerged victorious against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in a match that was delayed by an hour. The match, which took place on Wednesday, saw Pakistan's captain Salman Agha lead his cricket team to a convincing win.
The UAE were dismissed for 105 in 17.4 overs, with Pakistan's bowling spearheaded by Abrar Ahmed and Shaheen Shah Afridi. Ahmed took 2 wickets and scored 13 runs, while Afridi added 2 wickets and 29 not out to his tally. Simranjeet Singh was the pick of the UAE bowlers, taking 3-26 in the match.
Pakistan's opening batsmen, Saim Ayub and Sahibzada Farhan, both fell early in the innings, but Fakhar Zaman stepped up to score 50 off 36 balls. His innings included three sixes and two fours before he was dismissed by Simranjeet Singh. Zaman and Salman Agha added 61 runs for the third wicket for Pakistan, providing a solid foundation for the cricket team's victory.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had initially demanded the removal of match referee Andy Pycroft for the match against the hosts, but following urgent talks between the PCB and the International Cricket Council, Pycroft was appointed as the match referee.
UAE skipper Muhammad Waseem played down the distraction of Pakistan's late arrival for the match, stating that the cricket team had been kept informed about the delay and had not worried about off-field matters. Waseem added, "Cricket is a game of expectations, fans have a lot of expectation so we will try to live up to that."
Haris Rauf, who also took 2 wickets for the UAE, expressed confidence in Pakistan's ability to be more competitive in their rematch with India. Rauf stated, "We will do our best to be competitive."
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan are set to play in Abu Dhabi to determine who advances from Group B. Bangladesh is also in contention with two wins in three matches. The tournament continues to heat up as cricket teams fight for a spot in the finals.
