A Blast in Jammu Stirs Panic: Tensions Rise After Cross-Border Strikes

Pakistan missile barrage met with India's countermeasures in Jammu, resulting in ear-shattering explosions.

A series of deafening explosions rocked Jammu last night, causing widespread concern among residents. This incident follows India's strikes on terror camps within Pakistani-administered Kashmir and Pakistan the day prior.

These loud blasts sent citizens scrambling, particularly after air raid sirens blared and power outages ensued. One former DGP of Jammu and Kashmir, Shesh Paul Vaid, took to X to assure residents, "Mata Vaishno Devi is with us, and so are the valiant Indian Armed Forces."

According to different sources, various Pakistani missiles were perceived to be intercepted by India and targeted military stations in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur. However, officials clarified that no casualties had resulted. The official X account of the Integrated Defence Staff confirmed the development, stating, "Threat neutralised by Indian Armed Forces as per standard operating procedure with both kinetic and non-kinetic means."

Adding to the tense atmosphere, sirens were also heard in Kupwara, Baramulla, and Akhnoor. Former J&K chief minister Mehbooba Mufti expressed her concern, stating, "Deeply disturbing reports are emerging from Jammu, where air strikes have reportedly hit certain areas. My heart goes out to the people of Jammu especially those living along the border. In this critical moment, my prayers for their safety and strength. I urgently appeal to all sides for restraint and for an immediate de-escalation."

These events between India and Pakistan are the latest chapter in the ongoing dispute over the Kashmir region, with both countries seemingly ready for further action against each other.

Background:India initiated targeted strikes on terror sites in Pakistan and POK under Operation Sindoor, following the Pahalgam massacre that left 26 people dead, mostly tourists. The targeted terror training camps were selected based on hard intelligence and their history of terror activities against the country. The strikes were announced after Prime Minister Narendra Modi granted the armed forces the authorization to respond forcefully to the Pahalgam strike.
