The ongoing tension between India and Pakistan has reached a boiling point, with Pakistan resorting to small arms and artillery fire along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday evening. The Indian Army retaliated proportionately. Further details are awaited.

The developments come shortly after multiple airspace violations and drone intrusions by Pakistan on the night of May 7 and 8, targeting Indian military infrastructure. In a press briefing, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi revealed that 300 to 400 drones were deployed across 36 locations, with several being shot down by Indian forces. Preliminary investigations suggest the drones were Turkish-made Asisguard Songar models.

On the night of May 7 and 8, Pakistan violated Indian airspace repeatedly, targeting military infrastructure across the western border. Pakistani military forces also fired heavy-caliber weapons along the LoC. According to Colonel Qureshi, around 300 to 400 drones were used to attempt infiltration at 36 locations.

Many of these drones were shot down using kinetic and non-kinetic means. The purpose of such extensive aerial intrusions is speculated to have been testing air defense systems and gathering intelligence. Investigations are ongoing to examine the wreckage of the drones further.

In response to these escalations, Pakistan targeted Jammu with Hamas-style missiles, attacking multiple areas on Thursday. This retaliation followed India's Operation Sindoor, where the Indian armed forces targeted nine terror infrastructures in Pakistan and PoJK on Wednesday, a direct response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.

Earlier on Thursday, Indian forces shot down over 50 Pakistani drones during a large-scale counter-drone operation along the LoC and IB. India successfully neutralized Pakistan military’s attempts at a large-scale drone and missile attack on various Indian military installations across Northern and Western India during the night of May 7-8. Additionally, an air defense system in Lahore was also neutralized.
