Pakistan initiates military operation following accusations of Indian air base attacks
Pakistan's Retaliatory Strike: Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos
A Tale of Two Nuclear Nations
In the heart of South Asia, tension between Pakistan and India escalated on May 10, 2025, leading to Pakistan's retaliatory military operation, code-named Bunyan-un-Marsoos. This operation was launched in response to India's targeted attacks that resulted in civilian casualties.
Gearing Up for Battle
Pakistan's military, using medium-range Fateh missiles, brutally attacked India's missile storage facilities and air bases in Pathankot and Udhampur. These strikes were in retaliation for India's earlier missile attacks on three Pakistani air bases, including one near Islamabad.
As the operation unfolded, Pakistan Television reported ongoing retaliatory attacks targeting "multiple locations in India." The government bestowed the name "Bunyan-un-Marsoos," meaning "a wall fortified with lead," on this fiery initiative.
Target Acquired
According to Pakistan's military, the BrahMos missile storage site near Beas, the Pathankot airfield in India's western Punjab state, and Udhampur Air Force Station in Indian-controlled Kashmir were all targeted. However, India's defense and foreign ministries remained unresponsive.
Pakistan's planning minister, in an interview, assured that they had taken "special measures" to avoid harming civilians, targeting only locations used to attack Pakistan.
A Showdown at the National Command Authority
The prime minister convened a meeting of the National Command Authority, a top body overseeing decisions about Pakistan's nuclear arsenal. However, there seemed to be mix-ups within the ranks, as the defense minister later claimed no such meeting was scheduled.
India's Response
Prior to Pakistan's mobilization, India had launched numerous missile attacks, though most were neutralized by Pakistan's defense systems. Furthermore, the Indian army reported sighting drones in 26 locations along the border and in Indian-controlled Kashmir, which were later engaged.
International Reaction and the Road Ahead
The conflict saw a sudden ceasefire after reported intervention by US President Donald Trump. India faced international criticism for spreading misinformation and refusing to investigate certain incidents, such as the Pahalgam attack. The situation remains tense, with both sides maintaining their positions amidst international scrutiny.
