The Sizzling Conflict between India and Pakistan: A Nuclear Standoff

Pakistan experiences drone assaults on three air bases, instigated by India as a response.

Tensions have reached a boiling point between archrivals India and Pakistan, as both nations find themselves inching closer to a full-blown war. Overnight, India orchestrated an onslaught of drones aimed at three strategic air bases, including one proximity to Islamabad, causing concern across the region.

Reports have surfaced, suggesting that Pakistan's three air force bases—Nur Khan in Rawalpindi, Murid in Chakwal, and Rafiqui in Shorkot, Jhang district—fell victim to Indian missile and drone attacks early Saturday morning. In a hurriedly convened press conference in Islamabad at 4 a.m., Pakistan's military spokesperson, Lt Gen Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry, warned that India is instigating the region to erupt in lethal conflict and affirmed that Pakistan will retaliate appropriate measures against this aggression.

Chaudhry did not entertain questions and curtailed the press conference immediately. The Pakistan Airport Authority (PAA) announced that the country's airspace would be off-limits to all forms of air traffic from 3.15 a.m. to 12 p.m., with updates to be shared at noon.

India's aggressive move comes on the heels of a deteriorating relationship and heightened animosity due to 'Operation Sindoor', a reprisal for a vicious terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives on April 22.

Located 10 kilometers from the capital, Islamabad, Nur Khan air base in Rawalpindi is one of the three prime military headquarters of Pakistan, making it a significant target in this escalating proxy war.

Chaudhry asserted that such covert tactics from India are deplorable attempts to drag the region into a ruinous war, and warned India to brace itself for Pakistan's retaliation.

While the exact details of the drone attacks on the air bases remain unclear, one thing is evident - the already volatile climate between the nuclear-armed neighbors continues to spiral further down a dangerous path.
