Pahang unveils two new river trails to boost eco-tourism and conservation
Pahang saw the completion of two National River Trail (DSK) projects in 2023, with more planned for the future. The Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) led the initiative to promote river conservation and local recreation. The Sungai Lipis river trail project in Raub and the Sungai Paya Pagar river trail in Bera Public Park are now open to the public.
The Sungai Lipis river trail project has seen significant upgrades, with a 450-metre pathway now ready for visitors. The project is expected to attract up to 2,000 visitors per month, providing a boost to local tourism.
The initiative, which began in 2023, aims to increase public awareness and community involvement in river preservation. The government allocated RM850,000 for the two completed projects. The Sungai Triang and Sungai Semerting River Corridor Restoration projects in Bentong are also part of this initiative, though their completion dates and leaders are not specified.
The DSK projects in Pahang are set to continue in 2026 and 2027, expanding river conservation efforts and strengthening community engagement. These projects not only promote environmental sustainability but also contribute to local recreation and tourism.
