Ozdemir's opponent, Palmer, is campaigning to win the election
Boris Palmer, the independent mayor of Tübingen, has endorsed Cem Özdemir as the Green Party's leading candidate for the upcoming Baden-Württemberg state elections on March 8, 2026. The endorsement was made to the online news portal 'web.de news'.
Palmer, a local politician, left the Green Party in 2023 due to a dispute, but he maintains a 25-year friendship with Özdemir. The endorsement, however, does not indicate a rejoining of the Green Party for Palmer.
Palmer, who identifies as a convinced ecologist, expressed his desire to be a member of the only truly ecological party in the United States. He also expressed absolute faith in Özdemir's ability to fill the office.
The contentious issues mentioned by Palmer did not specifically involve Özdemir. These issues, including migration, made membership in the Green Party unfeasible for Palmer.
Meanwhile, Manuel Hagel, the state and faction leader, is the State Farm's candidate for the state election. The upcoming election will be a significant event in the political landscape of California.
