Owner Michael Jordan of the Hornets ascribes significant worth to Kemba Walker, the team's star guard.
The NBA trade deadline is fast approaching, and the future of Kemba Walker with the Charlotte Hornets remains uncertain. According to Hornets owner Michael Jordan, all teams have expressed interest in the star point guard, but no specific suitors have been mentioned as of yet.
Jordan stated that while he would listen to opportunities regarding a deal for Walker, the asking price is high. The Hornets have been focusing on improving their roster around young players like LaMelo Ball, and while they have the assets to trade, no known trade discussions involving Walker and an All-Star player as return have been publicly reported.
Walker, who was the team's first-round draft choice in 2011, has been a cornerstone of the Hornets for seven years. He has a strong connection with the community and has been involved in a lot of community work during his time with the team. Walker has also expressed that he considers Charlotte as his home.
Despite the trade rumours, Jordan expressed a strong affinity for Walker, stating that he would not trade him for anything but an All-Star player. The Hornets are reportedly hoping that a willingness to move Walker might tempt a team to pick up one of the players with a bad contract as well.
The Hornets are currently 11th in the Eastern Conference with a record of 19-26. Jordan has not given up on the current season, and multiple reports last week indicated that the team had decided to shop Walker after failing to generate much interest in their other players.
A lot of fans in Charlotte have expressed a lot of love for Walker, and he has expressed a reciprocal love for them. Walker is averaging 21.8 points, 5.9 assists, and 3.4 rebounds in 43 games this season.
As the trade deadline approaches, the discussions regarding players are ongoing. The Hornets are targeting players like Jarrett Allen for roster needs, but Kemba Walker has not been linked to a major trade demand involving All-Star compensation at this time. It remains to be seen whether a deal will be struck before the trade deadline on February 8, 2025.
